If you play Champions Online, or Star Trek Online, your private data may have been accessed by unauthorized parties. That news comes courtesy of a source who received the following email from Cryptic Studios customer service earlier tonight:

As a result of routine security checks and upgrades, we have discovered that certain of your account information, including your password, may have been accessed by an unauthorized party.

For your security, we’ve reset the password on your account. You can recover your password via the “forgot password” link on the official Star Trek Online or Champions Online web sites:

https://www.startrekonline.com/user/password

https://www.champions-online.com/user/password

If you have used your account name and password for other accounts, especially financial accounts or accounts with personal information, you should consider changing your password on other services as well.

For full details on the unauthorized access, please read the notification here.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

The letter above is posted in its entirety. No details about when the possible breach occurred, or the extent of it, were provided. Our source tells us that his only involvement with a Cryptic Studios game was as part of the Star Trek Online beta some time ago, though this doesn’t necessarily indicate a time frame. If you play any Cryptic games and have received this warning, let us know in comments. We’ll be reaching out to Cryptic for comment and as soon as we know more, we’ll let you know.

In addition to Star Trek Online and Champions Online, Cryptic is also behind the upcoming Neverwinter. They formerly produced City of Heroes and City of Villains, but both games were sold to Paragon Studios in 2009.
